"People mess up all the time in their jobs. And no one really cares. Unfortunately, your job is in front of 18,000 people and they care."

Those were words of consolation from Rachel Platten's husband Saturday after she flubbed the National Anthem just before a National Women's Soccer League Game.

Moments before the Utah Royals were set to play the Chicago Red Stars in Salt Lake, Rachel Platten led the stadium in singing the Star Spangled Banner. And even though she's done it before -- including Game 1 of the 2016 World Series -- she forgot the lyrics.

“I have done it a bunch of times," the "Fight Song" singer shared in an interview with People, "but I stepped in front of the people and I felt the expectation. I was ready to open up and do it, and my mind just went blank."

Instead of singing "by the dawn's early light," she sang "by the star's early light." She recognized her mistake, but couldn't remember the correct lyrics, restarting twice before pressing on. Fans were supportive, and even comments on Youtube have been surprisingly gracious. Still, she felt awful afterwards.

“I went back to the stadium, and it all just came rushing at me — what I had done and not delivering what people were owed. My band was really kind. I was just sobbing."

She's taken it in stride, though, telling People, "“I’m trying to practice what I’ve been preaching: If I’m telling my fans to love yourself no matter what, I owe myself the same thing even though it’s really hard right now. I’m human."

She sure is. As one Youtuber put it, "Coulda been Fergie. It can always be worse."
