One of the best things we can all do to feel better about ourselves, is to help others in need.  Our area is looking for willing volunteers to help make a difference in many peoples lives.  Volunteering can help you make connections with people that can sometimes even help you further your career, or help you in making a decision of what you might want to do for a living. Here's a list of things that you can help with in our area right now:

 

PACKAGE FOOD FOR LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES

You can volunteer to help Kids Fighting Hunger package macaroni and cheese meals that will be distributed to local food pantries. The Pack the Mac event is scheduled for May 17th and starts at 9 am at the St. Cloud River's Edge Convention Center. ELEMENTARY SUMMER SCHOOL SUPPORT

Discovery School is located in Waite Park and serve students K thru 5th Grade.  They are looking for caring volunteers to assist with summer school in June and July.  The Volunteers will assist students with academic activities, and are needed Monday through Thursday mornings from 7:30 am to 11:30 am. One shift per week would be asked of the Volunteers. There will be no classes July 4th.  Orientation and training are provided.  Call Sonia for information at 320-529-6500, ext. 6268.

 

BIRTHING CENTER VOLUNTEERS

The Family Birthing Center is seeking five tour guides, to guide expectant parents through their birthing center.  Script and training are provided, and no previous experience is necessary. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least two tours per month.  Shifts are typically weekday evenings from 5 to 9, and one Saturday afternoon a month from 1030 am to 2:30 pm.  To become a Volunteer, contact CentraCare Volunteer Services at 320-255-5638.

 

SUMMER AT SOUTH

Volunteers are needed for grades 6 through 8, to support summer academic programming at South Junior High located in St. Cloud.  Classes will start mid June and go through July.  Volunteers are needed to work one on one or in small groups Mondays through Thursday mornings, and are asked to donate their time to one shift per week. No classes will be held on July 4th.  Orientation and training will be provided to volunteers. Call Coordinator Sonia, at 320-529-6500 ext 6268 for information or to volunteer.

 

DONATE YOUR BIKES

Donated bikes are repaired, disassembled, painted and rebuilt for the Husky's Re Cycle Program.  Bike racks are also build from frames of bikes beyond repair.  If you'd like more information, call 320-308-3772.

 

THE SALVATION ARMY IS LOOKING FOR ITEMS

The Salvation Army is looking for coffee cups and mugs, soup bowls, plastic and paper grocery bags for food distribution and are  also in need of used eye glasses for the Lions Club.  The Salvation Army is located at 400 U.S. 10, St. Cloud.  Call Jim for more information at 320-257-7436.
