MTV just announced its nominations for 2019 Video Music Awards, and Minnesota artist Lizzo is up for two!

The rising Minneapolis-based hip hop star earned nods in the Best New Artist and Push Artist of the Year categories. The Push category is MTV Europe's version of Best New or Breakthrough artist.

Lizzo has had quite the whirlwind year, performing just a few weeks ago at UK's Glastonbury music festival (not without some drama), debuting at #1 on iTunes Albums Chart, and making Time Magazine's list of 10 Best Songs of 2018. Her song "Boys" gained viral attention for its retro music video, and "Truth Hurts" gained national attention after a Green Bay radio station announced they'd be editing out references to the Minnesota Vikings.

Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, was born in Detroit, MI and grew up in Texas before moving to Minnesota in 2011. She's set to perform at the Armory in Minneapolis October 9th (sold out) and 11th.
