St. Cloud City Council Denies Rezoning Request For Planned Solar Garden
ST. CLOUD - A plan to build a solar garden at a south St. Cloud cemetery has failed to get approval from the St. Cloud City Council. During Monday night's meeting the council voted three to three against a request to rezone 10 acres of the Assumption Cemetery at 2341 Roosevelt Road. Five votes were needed for it to pass.
Dave Masters is one of the council members who voted against the project.
I went out and visited the site on two occasions, and have had numerous interactions and emails from residents in objection to this project.
The applicants, Novel Energy Solutions, wanted to install a one megawatt solar garden in the northeastern portion of the property. A total of 3,600 solar panels would have been installed.
During a public hearing back in November, residents raised concerns about the project. Some said they were worried about what other projects could be developed in the cemetery.
