If you have a fishing boat and want to share your love for angling with young people, the SabreStorm Fishing Club has an opportunity for you.

KIDS FISHING CLUB IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA

The SabreStorm Fishing club is a local organization for kids in the Sartell-St. Stephen and Sauk Rapids-Rice school districts. The club is open to students from sixth through twelfth grades with a goal of introducing kids to fishing and to allow them to learn from experienced anglers in a supportive environment.

While there is a competitive element to the team, members can be as competitive as they want to be during the events.

This year's club has 208 registered anglers, a record for the group, and the need for boat captains has never been greater. Captains are needed for June 7th on the Horseshoe Chain in Richmond, July 8th at the Mississippi River, August 2nd on Gull Lake and September 20th on the Mississippi.

VOLUNTEER TO HELP KIDS FISH IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA

In order to be a captain, boat owners must be fully insured and be able to pass a background check. In addition, lifejackets must be worn by all onboard when the motor is running.

Captains are able to fish alongside the students and do not need to be experts to volunteer. "Our anglers can, and will, suggest possible methods and spots to try, or you can brainstorm some ideas right there with them," the group said on its Facebook post looking for volunteers.

In order to volunteer to be a captain, you will need your boat's make/model, capacity and MN Hull identification number. Your boat must be legally registered and insured, and captains must consent to a background check.
