Rivalry Renewed: Lumberjacks Take On Familiar Foe In Alexandria

The Granite City Lumberjacks advanced to the West Division championship series with a sweep of Mason City over the weekend. While the Lumberjacks got some rest on Sunday, it wasn't until Monday afternoon that they learned which team they would be taking on for the West Division title. Alexandria got the win on Monday, and now the I-94 rivals are set to play a best-of-3 series for the right to move on to Missouri and the Fraser Cup.

A Rivalry Renewed In The Playoffs

The Lumberjacks and Blizzard have had some competitive seasons, with the two teams often jockeying for first place in the West Division over the years. This year, the Minnesota Moose and Granite City were battling for first most of the year, with Alexandria hanging back, waiting for the playoffs.

The playoff series, a best of 3, will start in Sauk Rapids Friday night with the puck drop happening at 7:30pm at the Miller Buick GMC Rink, with game 2 scheduled for Alexandria on Saturday night at 7:10, and if needed, a game 3 back in Sauk Rapids on Sunday, scheduled for 6:00pm.

Winner Moves On To St. Peters, Missouri

According to the NA3HL website, the Fraser Cup playoffs will consist of the 6 division playoff champions playing in a two-game round robin, with a semi-final, then a championship from March 25-29.

"The top two teams in each pool will advance to the semi-finals, where they will then cross over to play the other top two teams from the other pool. The winners of the Semi-Finals will advance to the Fraser Cup Championship Game."

Hoisting Another Fraser Cup?

The Granite City Lumberjacks aren't strangers to hoisting the Fraser Cup, as they have previously won the NA3HL Championship in 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2023.
