After seeing this super fun recipe online, I tried to make this recipe with pre-made cookie dough, but it doesn't always work. Most over the counter cookie dough spreads out, so the fingers won't be fingers...they'll just be a flat mess. If you want the recipe to turn out, use this cookie dough recipe.

Ingredients

  • 7 1/4 C. all purpose flour
  • 2 C. salted butter (softened)
  • 2 C granulated sugar
  • 1 C. light brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • (for chocolate cookies replace 1 1/4 C. of the flour with cocoa)
  • 3/4 cup whole blanched almonds
  • 1 tube (19 g) red decorator gel, or strawberry jam (blood for fingers)

Options: Make Green Monster fingers

You can add food color to the cookie dough to make green fingers, or any other color for creative ideas.

Preparation

Make the dough a little earlier in the day, so it is ready for the time when you want to have kids join in the fun of making the cookies.

In bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, almond extract and vanilla; beat in flour, baking powder and salt. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Roll out fingers, using your own finger as an example. make the center of the dough of the finger slightly bigger, like a knuckle, and then take a knife and make three cuts in the center for appearance of a knuckle...Then use an almond at the tip like a fingernail. and bake in 325 degree oven for 9 minutes. Time and temp might vary for your oven!

When you take the fingers out of the oven, place several fingers on a presentation plate. You can remove the almonds, carefully, and put a dab of red gel or strawberry jam where the fingernail almond goes. Once you place a dab of gel, put the almond back where it belongs, pressing so the jam or gel squeezes out around the almond.

Arrange the fingers on the plate, and then put enough jam or gel to cover the bottom of each finger, so it looks like they've been severed from a hand. For added excitement, put a little jam or jel spilling onto the plate and table, to look like you just cut them off and served them fresh! Mmmmmm...

Have fun and enjoy making these really gross cookies.  (Now this is the kind of cooking my boys will enjoy!)

Proceed eating them with caution. Keep a garbage can handy, for those with a sensitive stomach.
