Joe Mauer Makes a Wish Come True For Young Fan
The man I was supposed to marry, Joe Mauer, did some good over the weekend! Even though the Twins are doing their usual win a few lose a lot routine, they hit out of the field to give back!
Eight-year-old Grant from Lino Lakes, got a very cool wish granted by the Make-a-Wish foundation. Grant was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. The one thing Grant wanted was to play video games with MN Twins Catcher, Joe Mauer, his favorite athlete. Mine too Grant, but probably for different reasons.
Joe, being the stand up guy he is, went all out for Grant and his family. Not only did he send a limo to pick up the family, he gave them a tour of Target Field, introduced them to the team, and yes, they played some video games together; and not just on a lame 60-inch flat screen either. They played “MLB 11: The Show” on the fourth largest screen out of all MLB stadiums. That’s right, the two guys hit their home runs on a 5,800-square-foot video scoreboard. That’s the equivalent of a 1,392-inch TV, and it would take 1,042 42-inch TVs to fill the same space.
Joe could have easily sent him a signed baseball and picture, but he wanted to make is day truly special. Here is the video of Grant and Joe playing on the big screen, Courtesy of WCCO. And if you want to know, Joe did win 4-2. He could have easily let Grant win, but I love that Joe played pretty fair and really made his year!
