You know that feeling you get when you're learning something new for the first time and then all of a sudden things just click and it all makes sense? I had one of those moments this week.

I became a first time mom nearly 15 months ago. It's not like parenting has been hard, but it has definitely presented me with some challenging moments.

The other night I was home with my husband and our son. My son's bedtime is usually 6 o'clock since he's up early everyday due to my work schedule. Charlie fell asleep in my arms. I held him for awhile and watched TV.

My mom senses were going off--my son had pooped his diaper. I exchanged looks with my husband who was equally as puzzled...what do we do? Do we wake him up to change his diaper and risk him not being able to fall back asleep? Or, do we try changing him while he sleeps and try not to wake him up?

It was a hell of a pickle to be in.

I decided that waking him up to change his diaper seemed like a bad idea. I was determined to try and change his diaper while he slept. I've tried this before and it didn't go so smoothly.

I put him down and started to change his diaper, all while holding my breath. I tried my best to warm up the wipes in my hand before using them on his skin. But, at the same time I was also trying to change that diaper as quickly as possible because he was a ticking time bomb. My heart felt like it was going to stop each time the wipe met his skin.

I had beads of sweat building on my forehead with fear. My eyes were locked on his little sleeping face. I was taking cues from his facial expressions. Every time his face changed expressions, I froze like a deer in headlights.

By some miracle of God, Charlie stayed asleep through the whole thing...let me say that again--HE STAYED ASLEEP THROUGH THE WHOLE THING! I changed a sleeping baby's poopy diaper and he didn't wake up.

I put the new diaper back on him, put his jammie bottoms back on, scooped him up in my arms and put him to bed.

I quietly backed out of his room, waited until I was a safe distance away from where he was sleeping and my husband and I did a celebration dance! I've never thought changing a poopy diaper would give me such a feeling of accomplishment. But, it did.
