The streaming service is following through on their word that they'll be hiking prices.

In January, Netflix warned that they'd be hiking their monthly subscription fees 13 to 18 percent. True to their word, they've now announced that starting in May monthly fees will increase by $1-$2, the highest subscription fee increase in the company's 12 years.

According to Kare11, the most popular subscription plan -- "which offers high-definition streaming on up to two different internet-connected devices simultaneously" -- will see the greatest hike from $11 to $13. The cheapest plan will increase to $9 a month.

Netflix said in a statement that the extra fees will help pay for the streaming company's growing array of original movies and shows.

“We change pricing form time to time as we continue investing in great entertainment and improving the overall Netflix experience."
