Will Minnesota UPS Drivers Be Working Longer Hours?
Did you realize that there has been a contract between UPS and the United States Postal Service for the last couple of decades? I didn’t either until recently.

The contract was called “SurePost” and it basically worked like this. If you ordered something, that potentially could have free shipping, UPS would have its chain of employee’s pick up the package from the distribution center and move that package across the country on their trucks and planes, and then they would drop it off at your local post office.
Then the Postal Service would complete the delivery process.
Normally these were packages that were smaller in size and weight, normally under ten pounds. The final destination would be in more rural or isolated communities. You know the areas that are more out of the way or further from the nearest town or city. The “SurePost” was also for addresses that are PO boxes.
From there, the postal service would complete the final delivery process. UPS and USPS each made some money on the deal, and it seemed to be a good arrangement until last year.
The contract broke down over the monies paid to the postal service and expired at the beginning of the year. That means now all the packages are going to be delivered fully by UPS.
This could potentially add a lot more packages on certain UPS trucks which means you could see the truck that works your neighborhood out later in the evening hours.
You might also get your packages sooner because once it gets on the local UPS truck, it won’t have to go through a whole other process of being scanned and then distributed by the Postal Service.
So, keep an eye out later in the day for your friendly UPS driver who could be putting in more hours to get everything delivered.
