My boyfriend is OBSESSED with his cell phone. Let me say that again...he's obsessed. He is on his phone when he eats breakfast, lunch and dinner.

He's on his phone when he watches movies, TV shows and when we're at sporting events. I don't think there's really a time that he's not on his cell phone. I definitely don't think he could go an entire day without using Twitter, Facebook, the internet in general or texting. To be fair, he does radio for a living so it's hard to not want to stay connected with the world.

He's not alone though. Phone addiction is becoming a common problem in relationships. Huffington post put together a list of ways your relationship will improve by putting down the phone.

1. You'll be more connected to your partner. There's nothing more annoying than feeling like you're competing for attention with the entire world. When you're face to face with someone it's rude to not give them your undivided attention.

2. You'll be able to stop fights before they happen. Have you ever sent a text that simply said "OK" and your partner inferred an emotion with it? Maybe you were just trying to say "OK" and instead they thought you were being short with them. Thus, a fight has been started that could have been avoided.

3. You'll have a better work/life balance. It's healthy to care about work, check your emails and be in the "know" when you're at home every once-in-awhile, but you have to know when to shut it off and enjoy your personal life. If you're always working when you're home, you're sending signals to your partner that work is more important.

4. Your significant other will feel more appreciated. If your partner wanted flowers, candy, or jewelry, they could buy it themselves if they really wanted it. They can't buy your time. Your time and attention is worth more than what money can buy. Give your partner your time and they'll feel way more appreciated in the relationship.

You can start by putting your phone down for a set period of time at night and just enjoy each other's company. If that proves successful, see if you can go without your phone for an entire day.
