James Cameron, the Director, was talking about the 3D version of Titanic and discusses the meme, and states that they would not have survived if they both balanced on the plank. I guess "Myth Busters" will really put it to the test to see if it would have worked, or not. (He talks about the meme around the 4:28 mark)
