2020 is shaping up to be a fun year for watching the sky. Super moons, eclipses, and more will be gracing the nighttime sky, and it all kicks off with the the Quadrantid meteor shower that peaks in January.

This meteor shower happens every year between the end of December and early January. This year is it happening from Dec. 27th - January 10th. Keep your eyes on the sky this week to see a few meteors here and there, it is usually about 25 an hour. But really pay attention on January 3rd and 4th when it peaks. During peak you could see up to 100 meteors per hour.

This meteor shower is usually hard to spot because of common cloudy January skies and bright moons, but this year the moon is only at 58% brightness, and only partly cloudy skies are predicted for nighttime forecasts.

Where should you be looking for these streaks of light? Only in Your State says:

Look for the Big Dipper, then follow the tail to a bright star called Arcturus. This is within the Bootes constellation, where you'll see the Quadrantids meteor activity.

The best veiwing will happen in the wee hours of the morning the night of January 3rd. Hopefully we get nice clear skies to stay up and watch it!
