St. Cloud Snow Removal Regulations

Since snow is potentially in the forecast, we might as well refresh ourselves on the snow removal rules and regulations for the year.

Generally, with a normal snowfall of 2 inches or more, the city of St. Cloud plows all streets, alleys, parking lots, and affected sidewalks in the system.

St. Cloud Ordinance 680:05 requires property owners to clear public sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours after the end of a snowfall. A sort of "to-do" list for this includes:

• Shovel sidewalks on all sides of your property, the full width of the sidewalk.
• Remove ice to the bare pavement and treat with salt or sand, if needed.
• If you have a corner property, clear curb cuts at corners and crosswalks to the street gutter to facilitate handicap accessibility.
• Pile snow into your yard and boulevard. It's against the law to shovel snow into streets and alleys.
• Make arrangements for someone to take over while you are away.

Failure to comply may result in snow and ice removal by City staff.

Luckily the "snow" that is allegedly on the way this week won't amount to much or stick around. But it is Minnesota and we know more is on the way!

Also, winter parking restrictions kick off November 1st. That date will be here before we know it!
