Sheriff’s Office: Don’t Fall For Computer Pop-Up Scams
LONG PRAIRIE - The Todd County Sheriff's Office is reminding you to not fall for pop-up scams on your computer.
A resident from Round Prairie Township says they had a pop-up on their computer requesting they call Tech Support for Microsoft. In the phone conversation the tech person claimed the resident needed to pay $300 for anti virus software. The resident paid the fee. The tech person called back later and said they were going to refund $250. But then they claimed they accidentally refunded $1,250, and the resident would need to send $1,000 on a moneypak card to China for the overpayment.
Remember it is not advised to provide your bank account information to anyone over the phone.
