The Sartell Police Department recently alerted the public to possible mail theft in the area.

On February 26, the Sartell PD posted a warning on their official Facebook page. It reads, "Our department was recently notified of possible mail theft in the area as a local resident was contacted by another law enforcement agency that documents belongings to them were recovered in another city."

Had the Sartell resident not been informed that their mail was recovered in another town, they may not have known that they were a victim of mail theft.

The Sartell police offered up some tips to help protect your mail from thieves and porch pirates.

  • They suggest you check your mail frequently. Don't leave your mail sitting in the mailbox. For certain packages, you can request a signature upon delivery.
  • Check for your packages and stay on top of tracking. When you hear the delivery person ring your door bell, don't wait.
  • You should monitor your credit and banking information regularly and immediately report any suspicious activity.
  • Report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately so they can help you but also alert others in your area.

The United States Postal Service also has a really neat feature called 'informed delivery'. You can sign up for it and monitor your mail. They'll email you a photo of all of your mail as it arrives to the post office. That way, you know what mail to expect to be delivered on any given day.

It's a great tool and it's free. You just need to make an account with the USPS. I love this tool because if there's ever something I'm waiting for, I know immediately in the morning if it will be arriving that day.
