Christmas Eve in my family is always spent with my mom's side. We all gather at my grandparents house, hang out, and then carpool to Browerville for their Christmas Eve mass. Afterwards we head back to my grandparents for dinner, more quality time and of course gift opening.

The best part of it all though is my grandma Sue's Christmas cheese ball.

This appetizer is the thing of legends. It gets set out with a tray of crackers before we leave for church and you can count on my uncles and I to put a good dent in it before it is put back in the fridge before we leave. It's the simplest dish but there's just something extra magical about digging into it with a cracker.

Here is how to make it yourself:

Ingredients:

  • 2 blocks of cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cup of cooked chopped ham
  • 3/4 - 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic and onion powder to taste
  • Top with sliced green olives

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, and then form a ball with your hands. Top with sliced green olives, and loosely wrap with saran wrap.

Store it in the fridge until serving time. Unwrap and dig in with your favorite crackers. I prefer Keebler Town House because they are sturdy, but not hard. And can hold a lot of cheese ball.
