Was that a country crossover playing on Mix 94.9 this week? Sure was!

Country duo Dan + Shay made their crossover to pop on Mix 94.9 this week with their single "Tequila."

"Tequila" released January 10, 2018 ahead of their third self-titled album Dan + Shay, which released June 22. It peaked at #1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart, #2 on Hot Country Songs, and #21 on Billboard's Hot 100.

In an interview with Billboard, they said,

You see the list of names that are on the Hot 100, Drake, Cardi B, all these massive artists -- and then Dan + Shay. It's like, 'Did somebody make a mistake?' It's an honor."

And in case you were wondering -- yes, the duo does drink a lot of tequila. They're co-writer Jordan Reynolds pointed it out and insisted they write a song.

He's like, 'Dude, you guys drink a lot of tequila. We gotta write that song.' It's kind of what inspired us to write that tune."

Not only has the song found success, but the music video also won a CMT Award for Duo Music Video of the Year.
