Not cool, man!  Looks like we could have a bumper crop of mosquitoes this year.

The last 3 years or so we have had a drought in various degrees.  This has made the mosquito crop not quite as bad as what we have experienced in other years.  And let's be honest, it's been pretty nice not to have SO MANY mosquitoes that usually just ruin an otherwise beautiful summer night outside.

According to the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) the first part of the summer shouldn't be too bad.  It's that second half that could be a whopper of a mosquito population.  Yuck!

According to a model developed by MMCD's entomology lab, cattail mosquitoes, a species of mosquito that has been absent over the last three years due to drought conditions, are projected to return in significant numbers in 2025.

When we already know this, there are some things that we can do individually, like hire a mosquito control service.  While I do know that people don't necessarily want to put anything unnatural in the air, lawn, bushes, etc, there are some solutions that are all natural and work very well.

What would be even better is if the city would provide this as a service.  Other areas that I've lived when they know that the mosquito population will be huge, they will spray a few times throughout the spring/summer months to try and curb that population as much as possible.

Pests.  That's what they are.  But not JUST pests.  Sometimes they can carry diseases that no one wants.  And what's great about the mosquito control, at least most of the control solutions, is that it also controls the tick population.  No one wants that either!  Not just because of the high "eew" factor, but those little buggers also can carry a bunch of diseases that no one wants, and can have long term affects.

It would be great if there is a possiblility to have something like a crop duster come by and help control the mosquito/tick population in the St. Cloud area?
