Following Tuesday's election results, a Minnesota Republican and Democrat showed that there's more to politics than just party differences and divisions.

The Minnesota House District 49A -- which covers Edina -- was one of 18 House seats to flip from Republican to Democrat this week, giving the Democratic party control of the House.

While ill-will or spite may be be expected responses in today's political climate, two politicians of opposing parties instead showed an unlikely display of grace and support.

A picture taken by Jennifer Hovelsrud was shared to Facebook showing winning Democrat Heather Edelson and defeated Republican Rep. Dario Anselmo toasting to each other over drinks at a Twin Cities restaurant.

The caption to the photo reads, "In the current political climate, this is an example of all that is right in public service. For those that don’t know, these two were opponents in yesterday’s election for the MN House. I’m proud to know you Dario and Heather and so pleased to see you together tonight. Thank you both for your dedication."

In their own posts online, Edelson and Anselmo continued to show genuine support for each other.

"I first want to thank Rep. Dario Anselmo for his service to our community," Edelson shared on Facbeook, "He has been an important voice for Edina and I look forward to working with him for many months and years to come."

Despite his disappointment in the results, Anselmo showed equal respect and support for Edelson, " It was particularly disappointing to me because there was so much more I wanted to do and so much more that you told me you wanted done...Now it’s Heather Edelson’s job to represent all of Edina and I wish her the very best. I will do whatever I can to assist her because I don’t believe most people care whether you’re blue or red, liberal or conservative, or Democrat or Republican."

Political parties aside, he also promised to continue making the best impact he can in his community: "I’ve been involved in helping this community for more than 20 years. One bad election result can’t change my commitment to making Edina the best place in Minnesota to live, work and raise a family, and I hope to continue serving this community for a long time to come."
