UPDATE (Feb. 3, 2021) - The Major League Baseball Player's Association has rejected the league's proposal to shorten the season, Spring training and the regular season will no start on schedule, with the Twins opening the season on April 1st against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Major League Baseball is considering shortening the 2021 Minnesota Twins schedule along with the rest of the league to 154 games, delaying the season start to April 28th. Players would report to spring train on March 22nd if the proposal is accepted.

Last season, the COVID-19 shortened schedule didn't start until July 23rd, ending on September 27th with a 60-game regular season. That would be about a one month delay, asThe 162-game original schedule was set to start on March 28th.

The season ended with the Los Angeles Dodgers beating the Tampa Bay Rays four games to two in the World Series held in Arlington, Texas.

As of now the Minnesota Twins regular season is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 1st against the Brewers in Milwaukee. The Twins home opener at Target Field is set for a week later on Thursday, April 8th against the Seattle Mariners.

Hey Pete, what's that on your fridge? Oh those? They're my Twins home opener tickets from April 2nd last year that I couldn't use thanks to the coronavirus.

Other changes to the Major League Baseball season if the proposal is accepted is an expanded playoff field from ten teams to fourteen -- with the designated hitter being expanded to the National League for the second straight season and the keeping of the seven-inning doubleheaders, and beginning extra innings with a runner on second base.

If the modified MLB plan is accepted, the World Series would extend into November 2021.

The thought behind the whole adjustment is to allow more time for vaccinations and to give experts more room to digest the current public health scenarios.
