Is your desk a mess? Good luck snagging a promotion. 

That heap of paper, dust bunnies, office supplies, plastic forks, used napkins, dirty kleenex, food wrappers, coffee cups and empty beer soda cans may be a "creative mess" to you, but a new survey by OfficeMax shows that having a messy desk may be holding you back.

More than half of the people surveyed say they think poorly of coworkers who have messy desks. 40% of BOSSES say if you fail to clean your desk they think you're failing in other aspects of your career. 13% say they have a lower opinion of messy office mates just as a human being in regular every day life. More than 75% of respondents say having a sloppy coworker hurts their productivity. 46% of the people surveyed say they are trying to keep their desk cleaner than they did last year.

Everything ON my desk is hyper organized, it's just UNDER my desk that's a garbage heap, but there's a perfectly good explanation as to why it is that way. I am responsible for the top of my desk, so that's super clean, but budget cuts forced me to let my maid Hilda go. She was a nice lady.
