Joe Mauer Welcomes Twin Girls Wednesday

It's official: Minnesota's own version of royalty, Joe Mauer, is a first-time dad. Mauer's wife, Maddie, went into labor late Tuesday night and delivered twin girls early on Wednesday morning in St. Paul.

The Twins catcher and his wife named the twin girls Maren and Emily.

Mauer missed Tuesday night's victory over the LA Angels to charter a flight back to Minnesota in hopes of being at the hospital on time to witness the births, which he accomplished.

Mauer will be placed on paternity leave and is expected to miss 1-3 games.
