SAUK RAPIDS (WJON News) -- Bad news for some families in the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District. A road construction project that was scheduled to be completed before school starts on August 31st has been pushed back.

Benton County says the concrete on the roundabout at County Road 29 and Mayhew Lake Road failed, revealing cracking and inadequate curing.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has recommended the contractor remove the pavement and pour new concrete. This means the intersection remains closed and the detour is still in place.

Families with students in the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District should contact District Offices with questions about impacts on bus routes and schedules.

Benton County now expects the project to be completed by the end of September.
