Jury Convicts Minnesota Man in Fatal Western Wisconsin Stabbing of Teenager
Hudson, WI (KROC-AM News)- A St. Croix County jury has convicted a Minnesota man accused of fatally stabbing a teenager and wounding four others on a western Wisconsin river nearly two years ago.
The deadly knife attack occurred on the Apple River near Somerset, WI on July 30 of 2022.
17-year-old Isaac Schuman of Stillwater lost his life as a result of the stabbing.
54-year-old Nikola Miu of Prior Lake was charged with first-degree murder, three counts of first-degree attempted murder and assault.
On Thursday morning the jury returned a guilty verdict on all six counts. Closing arguments in the murder trial wrapped up on Wednesday.
The prosecution argued Miu initiated the violent confrontation among the tubers.
The defense argument, which included Mui testifying in court, tried to persuade jurors that Miu was attacked by the teenagers and that the stabbing was an act of self-defense.
The trial began at the St. Croix County Courthouse in Hudson on April 1. The jury was shown video that captured the moments leading up to the fatal stabbing.
The jury deliberated for about seven hours before returning the guilty verdict.
