How Long Is The Wait For High School Hockey Tournament Season Tickets In Minnesota?
Since our radio station will unfortunately be able to cover this year's boys hockey state tournament due to scheduling issues, I figured I would take my seven-year-old to see Cathedral play on Friday.
Although every other state tournament I have been to has been as a broadcaster, I have seen some of the lines that can form at the ticket window on the day of the game, so I went online to buy tickets in advance.
As an added bonus, I get to use Ticketmaster! Super!
I made a Google to get the link for tickets and one of the search results toward the bottom of the page mentioned season tickets. I clicked on the link, which was to the Xcel Energy Center's info page, where I saw an interesting bit of information.
"Season books for Class AA are sold out. There is a waiting list for these books, the estimated wait is 12 years."
Twelve. Years. Considering no one knows from year to year who will even be playing in the tournament, that's a pretty long wait!
For comparison's sake, the Green Bay Packers' season ticket waiting list is estimated to have 150,000 people on it with an estimated wait time between 30 and 50 years.
There are, of course, other ways to get into the state tournament without a Class AA season ticket. Single game tickets can be a bit of a chase but are obtainable and the Class A tournament (where Cathedral will play) has plenty of seats available for all rounds.
