Giving Tuesday: Tom Bearson Foundation Keeping Sartell Native’s Legacy Alive
SARTELL - The Tom Bearson Foundation has a big event coming up this Friday. The 2nd Annual "Tommy B. - Hoopin' In Heaven" night is at Sartell High School.
Greg Bearson says they have several special things planned during the boys basketball game.
Like last year, we're hoping people will show up in their neon green 'Hoopin' In Heaven Tommy B." shirts. It was wonderful last year to see just a sea of this neon green in the stands.
Halftime entertainment is by the Alexandria Aces Basketball Performance Team. Proceeds from the night will benefit the Sartell boys basketball program. The action starts at about 7:00 p.m.
Bearson says they're looking forward to making a difference in young people's lives.
Essentially what we want to do is partner with some organizations that promote personal responsibility and personal safety for high school students. We're going to catch those kids that are seniors in high school before they go off to college.
Bearson says they've raised nearly $150,000 so far. They've used the money to help renovate the gym at St. Francis Xavier in Sartell, as well as hand out scholarships to high school athletes.
The Tom Bearson Foundation is a non-profit that was started about a year-and-a-half ago in honor of the Sartell graduate who was killed in the Fargo-Moorhead area in September of 2014.
