On Monday, September 16, Minnesota-based General Mills issued a voluntary recall on five-pound bags of Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour with a sell-by date of September 6, 2020.

The recall was issued after a E.coli was discovered during a sampling of of the five-pound bag of product. It's also being issued "out of an abundance of care" as General Mills has not received any reports of confirmed illness brought on my the product.

The recall only affects the five-pound bags of Gold Medal Unbleached All Purpose Flour with the Better if Used by Date 06SEP2020KC.

General Mills notes that while most strains of E. coli are harmless, others can make you sick. The strain found in the recalled product -- E. coli O26 -- is potentially deadly and can cause bloody diarrhea and dehydration.

Anyone with a bag of affected flour is encourage to throw it away, though General Mills does ask that you save the product name, bar code and Better If Used By Date to help the Customer Relations team. General Mills can be contacted at 1-800-230-8103.
