A Minnesota musician is recovering after being mugged and shot in the stomach over the weekend.

Friday night, Aaron Lee -- also known as Hix -- and his girlfriend Kate were walking home from a show at the 331 Club in Northeast Minneapolis when a vehicle pulled up alongside them and a man with a gun jumped out and robbed them. They gave the man their wallets, but as he was leaving the suspect turned and shot Hix in the stomach. Kate, who'd kept her phone hidden, immediately called police, and Hix was transported to Hennepin Healthcare where he underwent two surgeries.

Hix, who plays keyboard for the Red Daughters, is also a server, painter and electrician in training. As hard-working and loved as he is, his jobs, unfortunately, don't provide health insurance.

“He’s really in a bad place right now and he needs all the help he can get," said his bandmate and close friend Charles Murlowski.

Fortunately, Hix has a supportive community of friends and colleagues. His co-workers at Pizza Nea are hosting a beer and pizza fundraiser this upcoming Saturday, October 13 at 8pm, and a GoFundMe campaign has been established to help with his medical bills.
