ST. CLOUD - A former member of the Boys and Girls Club is now taking her chance to give back and be a volunteer.

St. Ben's student Kendyll Spells is a Super Readers volunteer through the Roosevelt Boys and Girls Club. Spells grew up in the Eastside Boys and Girls Club. She says much of her academic success is from getting extra help with reading after school at the Boys and Girls Club.

"When I was in 1st Grade I was able to be moved up into an upper level [reading class] because I was able to read at school but also at the Boys and Girls Club through the Super Readers program." -Spells

Spell's time as a member and volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club has inspired her to become a teacher. She says she'd like to teach middle school or high school history.

Through volunteering Spells has discovered more about who she is as a person and how she can be a positive influence to others.

"The kids make you a better person because the kids make you think about who you are and what you stand for."- Spells

Besides volunteering Spells enjoys reading, writing, crafts and says although she is a very talkative person she likes her solitude too.
