‘Fine Me All You Want’ This Large Flag Sparks Controversy
You can be TOO patriotic. That's what seems to be the issue in Greenville, North Carolina, as a Camping World location has racked up fines after installing a large flag and flagpole. If you want some context for just how big the pole and flag are, look to the east across Highway 10.
The flagpole at MTH stands 150 feet high with a flag that is 30' by 60'. The Camping World flagpole is 120 feet high, 70 feet higher than allowed, and is flying a massive 40' by 80' flag!
According to a television station in North Carolina, "the flag is nearly 15 times bigger than the allowable flag on non-residential property in the city, while the pole cannot exceed 70 feet. The CEO of Camping World says the flag is not coming down."

The flag and pole went up in October, so there hadn't been a flagpole flag flying at that location before, and a Google StreetView of the store doesn't show a current picture of where the flag and pole are, but there isn't much around that a big flag would distract from, and don't all Camping World's have giant flags, like this one in Little Falls?
I get that different cities have different rules for things, but what's the harm in flying the flag?
Ultimately the mayor of Greenville and the city council reconsidered the city's stance on the flagpole.
Council Member Les Robinson made a motion to direct staff to initiate a text amendment to allow a 3,200 sq. foot flag to be flown with one flag and a maximum flag pole height of 130 ft. with other various restrictions. Council Member Matt Scully seconded the motion and it passed unanimously 6:0.
Glad to hear that this 'problem' was resolved amicably.
