We've got snow in our central Minnesota forecast this weekend. It's an earlier snow, but it might still be too early for anything to make a big impact. At least, we've got history on our side.

The earliest blizzard on record for Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, happened on Oct. 15 through Oct. 16 in 1880. That winter was made famous by Laura Ingalls' book "The Long Winter". The DNR says snowdrifts of 10 to 15 feet made travel impossible.

It was the start of one of the longest winters ever recorded in Minnesota. So, yes, there is snow in our forecast this weekend, but it could be a lot worse. Let's just hope it doesn't stick around.

The National Weather Service says central and southern Minnesota can expect the coldest air of the season this weekend which could produce a few inches of snow on Friday night into Saturday. Expect wind gusts of over 40 mph.
