Minnesota Dollar General Stores Getting Fresh New Look
A national retail outlet that closed some stores in Minnesota as well as around the country earlier this year has been remodeling some of their stores, either partially or completely. Dollar General Stores has been trying to improve their customer shopping experience through modifications.
I noticed this yesterday when I went to the Dollar General in St. Augusta when I saw a sign on the door that said, “Store Refresh Updated Look Coming Soon”. When I went inside, I didn’t notice a major difference, what I did notice was about a dozen, maybe more, people who were scurrying around the store putting more merchandise in place. It was like the merchandise had been removed and was being replaced.
When I asked the clerk about the improvements, she said that the staff working in the store were about done.

What Is Taking Place?
A Google search about this topic says that Dollar General is currently doing one of two different initiatives to improve their stores. The first, which affects about two thousand stores, is called Project Renovate. This is where the stores in question will be fully remodeled with the store being closed during this process. The goal of course is to increase sales for these stores.
The second initiative is called Project Elevate, which will include updating the merchandise, where things go in the store, as well as the physical assets of the store. These plans do not force a closure, meaning the work can be done while customers continue to shop around the remodeling.
The stores that fit into the Project Elevate category have what are being called more mature customer bases. About 2,250 stores will fall into this category.
An article from Yahoo Finance from June says that Dollar General is able to make these improvements without overextending themselves financially.
If you’re a Dollar General shopper, have you noticed improvements around the store you shop at the most?
