Former child star Hilary Duff has been under fire recently after her friend posted a video on Instagram showing Duff's three-year-old daughter riding in the backseat of a car without a car seat or seatbelt.

People predictably freaked out when they saw the video and negative comments were quickly posted to the video. Duff's husband Matthew Koma responded to one of the comments by saying "“You’re the kind of person who cuts up a kid’s Apple sauce, hey," according to Page Six.

Duff recently went so far as to defend herself, saying "it's not like I was on the (freeway) with my kids in the back seat without a car seat."

She went on to say:

“You’re telling me you’ve never put your kids in the back seat to drive a block before with an adult back there?"

Well, no actually I haven't. I've definitely WANTED to and I would imagine my kid would LOVE it, but my job is to protect my kid the best I can, not to just do whatever would be the easiest or most fun in the moment.

Is this more common than I think? Are there people out there who think it's no big deal to put their toddler in the back seat without any restraint?

I know my parents didn't put me in a car seat all the time in the ancient times of the 1980's, but we should strive to do better, right?
