A Minnesota Walmart will be closing for good at the end of this month. According to a letter that Walmart sent to city and state leaders, there will be more than 170 associates who will be affected by the closing.

What Walmart Store Will Be Closing In Minnesota?

According to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, a Walmart in Coon Rapids will permanently close its doors at the end of the month. The closure will cost 176 associates their jobs when the store ceases business.

The closing Walmart store is located at 13020 Riverdale Dr. NW.

Coon Rapids has a population of 63,599 and is the second largest city in Anoka County, by population. 

Why Is The Walmart In Coon Rapids Closing?

No reason was given regarding the closure in the letter sent to city and state leaders, but an online search gives a few reasons as to why a store would be permanently closing.

In 2024, Walmart closed 11 stores in the US, while in 2023, the number of stores that were closed was 22 across 14 states.

According to the notice sent by Walmart:

"All affected associates can apply for open positions at other Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs, or other company facilities during a 90-day paid job search period. All associates at this facility who do not otherwise secure employment with the company following the paid job search period will separate employment effective October 31, 2025."
