CDC Saying Fully Vaccinated Minnesotans Can Gather Without Masks
We are at the one-year mark of dealing with COVID-19 shutting everything down, which makes this news even better. WCCO has reported that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has stated that fully vaccinated people can gather with other fully-vaccinated people without masks or social distancing. Just for reference, a person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after their final dose.
The CDC also updated its guidelines to say that if you’re vaccinated, you can gather with up to one unvaccinated household, as long as none of them are at high risk of severe illness.
This news is super promising to long-term care facilities in Minnesota. Most shut down to visitors back in March, and opened to them with limitations back in October.
Since October, the guidance has been that facilities must allow for broader visitation if the facility had not had a COVID-19 exposure in the last 14 days, and their county positivity rate was less than 10%.
Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm told WCCO that only 10% of Minnesotans have been vaccinated so far, so we still have a ways to go before we open everything without masks and social distancing. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
The big thing that I'm looking forward to after reading what the CDC had to say is concerts. There is an amazing festival lineup planned for Minnesota this summer, and if these shows can happen without masks and social distancing, that would be the ultimate reward for getting through 2020 and early 2021.
