ST. CLOUD -- Cathedral High School art students are going bigger than ever for this year's sidewalk chalk art project.

On perhaps the nicest day of the year, over 40 art club students and their friends worked to illustrate the galaxy on 3rd Street North between 6th and 7th Avenues.

"It's really fun and I just can't wait to have everyone else enjoy the piece as much as I did helping to create it," says Cathedral junior Ramona Kuhn, who organized the project.

Kuhn says she decorates her driveway with sidewalk chalk every fourth of July, so the decision to organize this astronomical art project was an easy one.

"I just want [my classmates] to have fun with it -- that was the main goal," Kuhn says. "I wanted the theme to be the solar system, but I want people to stretch their creativity, so I let them just run with it.

The display, which took the students over three hours to complete, features the sun and several planets, but also out-of-the-box (and out-of-this-world) illustrations of the Death Star, AstroCat, and a giant space serpent.
