Every weekday during Middays with Adam (10am-3pm), Adam shares some facts and trivia in a fun segment called Believe it or No (the Minnesotan version, you could say, of Ripley's Believe it or Not!).

Here are this past week's fun facts and trivia from Believe it or No:

  • You could last about 15 seconds in space without a space suit and helmet before you'd go unconscious . . . but you could stay alive for up to three minutes. (Source: Gizmodo)
  • The only U.S. states that produce coffee are Hawaii and California.  About 90% of the coffee consumed in the U.S. is imported, especially from South America. (Source: World Atlas)
  • There are about 117 million lakes in the world, which cover about 4% of the surface of the Earth. (Source: Phys Org)
  • Lewis Carroll never uses the name "Mad Hatter" in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland".  The character is just called The Hatter . . . and he has a "mad tea party" . . . so people started to blend the two. (Source: Wikipedia)
  • Myspace had the opportunity to buy Facebook for $75 million back in 2005, but they passed.  Now, 16 years later, Facebook is worth around $850 BILLION . . . and they will generate about $226 per user in the U.S. in 2021. (Source: Income)
  • Half of all the master's degrees people earn in the U.S. are in business or education. (Source: Poets and Quants)
  • In 1947, a woman went to Johns Hopkins to cure her hives.  She received an experimental drug called Compound 1694, for hay fever and allergies.  Her hives cleared up . . . AND she reported that, weirdly, she'd stopped getting nauseous while riding on public transportation.  Doctors immediately tested the drug for motion sickness, and Compound 1694 became . . . Dramamine. (Source: Hopkins Medicine)
  • The biggest park in the U.S. is Adirondack Park in upstate New York . . .  it's bigger than Death Valley and Yellowstone combined.  It's six million acres, which also makes it bigger than five entire states. (Source: Conde Nast Traveler)
  • The whitest state in the U.S. is . . . Maine.  93.1% of the population is White.  Vermont is next, at 92.7%.  Hawaii is the least white, at 21.7%. (Source: Wikipedia)
  • The Hawaiian Islands span a distance of 1,523 miles, from the Big Island of Hawaii in the southeast to the Kure Atoll in the northwest.  This makes Hawaii the world's longest island chain. (Source: To Hawaii)
