Thick, black smoke towered into the cold Minnesota air Wednesday as fire crews worked to put out the blaze at Northern Metals facility.

A light breeze drifted the smoke into the soft white clouds of the Becker power plant, creating a stark -- almost mesmerizing -- contrast of colors in the sky. Check out these incredible photos taken by Minnesotans passing by and even miles away.

According to an earlier report, the fire broke out in a pile of crushed vehicles early Tuesday morning. Over 30 different fire departments were called in to help fight the blaze.
