‘American Idol’ Champ Kris Allen Visits St. Cloud, Plays Song from New Album [AUDIO]

The Get Up & Go Show welcomed American Idol Season 8 Champ Kris Allen to Central Minnesota this morning.

Kris stopped by the Mix studio exclusively to chat about his tour stop at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis tonight and play some new music.

And he gave us a taste of the album he's working on.

This Year's Idol Experience

Kris says he hasn't watched Idol this year because he's been touring and he says they don't get  local TV channels on the bus.  So, he didn't weigh-in on the complaint by some Idol fans of not feeling much chemistry in this year's panel of judges.  But he likes the fact the final five contestants are women.

Recovering From a Car Wreck

Kris says his recovery from a January car crash has been slow, but he's back playing his guitar after breaking his wrist. And he's asking everyone to "please don't text and drive." He says he's pretty sure the woman who hit his vehicle was texting while driving.

Adding to the Family

Kris' family's going to get bigger. He says he and his wife of four years, Katy, are expecting a baby boy.

The American Idol champ also performed for us. Kris says he's six songs deep into a new album, and he gave us an acoustic taste of one of those new songs, "Monster."
