Who doesn't love the zoo?  I've been infatuated with zoo's as long as I can remember.  My earliest memories include many trips to the Racine Zoo (Wisconsin) and of course one of the best in the nation, the Milwaukee County Zoo (now that was a treat).  Since I arrived here in Central Minnesota, I've been exploring local attractions and working on a series called "Day-Cations."  I found myself in Freeport this afternoon, at the beautiful Hemker Park & Zoo.

If you've not been out to the Hemker Park & Zoo or its been awhile since your last visit, now is the time to get the family in the car, and take the25 minute ride to Freeport, to check it out!  Hemker Park & Zoo is dedicated to the memory of Mark Hemker,  Mark's vision started over 30 years ago when he started Hemker Wildlife Park.  To date, you can view more animals than almost any other zoo in the state of Minnesota.  The zoo offers edicational tours, sleigh rides and a petting zoo for the kids.
