Why I Thought Green Day’s Sold Out Show Was Just OK

This past weekend, Green Day sold out a show at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. With a career spanning 30 years, there is no reason that the show shouldn't be sold out. It was fun singing along to their old songs, hearing new songs and watching them bring different fans on stage to sing and play guitar with them. I did have one big problem with the show though. 

Green Day as always been a political band. They aren't afraid to speak their minds and stand up for what they believe in, and I really respect that. My issue with the show on Saturday was that at certain points it felt more like a political rally against President Trump instead of a rock concert. It wasn't just one little anti-trump quip, it was two or three speeches from Billie Joe Armstrong on the topic. Which is fine, freedom of speech is a thing. But in my opinion, people are at concerts to get away from politics. To forget about the trouble in the world for a little while. And when a group that has a solid fan base like Green Day gets on stage and rallies the masses, it stirs the pot. Which is great, we all have the right to protest and stand up for our beliefs, but it can also cause things like protests in the middle of really busy highways and that puts a lot of lives in danger.

Ultimately I wanted more of a face melting rock show from Green Day and less of an anti-President Trump campaign. To me concerts are for escaping the real world for a night, and Presidents should be supported. After all we did elect the guy.
