What Did Your Teachers Tell You That Turned Out To Be False?
School is right around the corner for students in St. Cloud, Sartell-St. Stephen and Sauk Rapids-Rice. When I was in school teachers used to tell me all of the time that t I shouldn't rely on calculators to help solve math problems because they won't always be available when I need one.
Well, cell phones have officially proved them wrong. Not only do we carry our phones with us wherever we go, but they all come equipped with a calculator as well. So, there's really no need to do mental math when figuring out how much you should tip your waiter at a restaurant or how much something will cost you after tax. You've got a calculator attached to your hip for that.
I'm not saying that it's not a wise idea to be able to do math on your own. I think that being able to do mental math is a very good thing. I'm just saying that my teachers really didn't factor in the changing technology when they told me and the rest of my classmates that we wouldn't always have a calculator on us.
This brings me to our topic this morning...what did teachers tell you while you were going to school that turned out to be totally false?
