A flipbook artist's latest work of art features Minnesota gymnast Suni Lee winning gold at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Growing up, Ben's dad collected all sorts of weird records, books, and antique toys. He had so much stuff, he even had his own room for it all. Ben would sit there with him and always find something new and interesting to look at. One day, Ben's dad brought out a Mickey Mouse flipbook. It felt like real magic in Ben's hands, sparking a love of animation and flipbooks. Decades later, Ben is a professional flipbook maker known as The Flippist (story adapted from his bio page at TheFlippist.com)!

You've probably seen a flipbook before -- it's a small book made up of drawings on each page that, when flipped through quickly, makes the drawings look like moving animation. Here's one Ben made of Prince to the song "Nothing Compares 2 U:"

With the 2020 Tokyo Olympics currently under way, Ben's most recent is an ode to another celebrated Minnesotan -- Gold Medal winner Sunisa Lee of St. Paul! The flipbook video features a concentrating Lee as she focuses, begins running down the mat and eventually vaulting and landing. The short clips ends with frames of Lee's parents watching and celebrating her Gold Medal win.
