SAUK RAPIDS -- Vintage country meets modern farmhouse at a Sauk Rapids home decor store.

Briar House formerly known as Briar Patch Mercantile has moved from its Waite Park location to an 1800s Sauk Rapids house. Owner Lisa Pfannenstein says Briar House is full of one of a kind pieces.

"We focus on original, unique, home decor, we love the new trend of a modern farmhouse look, Joanna Gaines is our hero, so we kind of follow trends in that way and your not going to find a lot of repetition in our products."

Candles, trinkets, light fixtures and just about anything that fits in the urban farmhouse or coastal style can be found in the gift shop.

Pfannenstein has been in the home decor business for more than 25-years. She says since she was child, art has always had a presence in her life. She started out just going to craft shows and then decided to make a career out of her passion.

The Briar House owner went through many transitions to get the business to the successful point of where it is at today. Pfannenstein started her own wholesale candle company, Briar Patch Primitives and eventually opened a retail location in Waite Park to sell candles and other home decor.  But she knew the Waite Park location was not the store's final home.

Pfannenstein says for six years while she was in Waite Park, she searched for the perfect home for Briar House.

"So we had bought this [the new location] in October of 2015, it took us three years of heavy looking. We had a checklist, it had to be charming, unique, a corner lot, a big lot so we could do functions or add on and it took about a year to renovate."

The powder blue house was originally built in 1888. The store is near the Sauk Rapids Fire Station at 505 2nd Avenue North. It has been in Sauk Rapids since October of last year.

The Briar House is open Tuesday and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and Thursday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
