WAITE PARK -- You can get your kids involved in a youth soccer program in Waite Park this summer.

Starting next Tuesday (June 13th) the Waite Park police department will be holding two morning soccer programs for kids ages 10-17.

Police Chief Dave Bentrud says they wanted to give kids the opportunity to get out and stay active.

"We wanted to try and start a program on the west side of Waite Park and give them something to do in a sport that's becoming very popular. We're hoping to have a good turn out," says Bentrud.

The soccer program will take place every Tuesday and Thursday at Bartz Park through August 4th. From 9:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. kids ages 10-13 will practice and 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for kids 14-17 will practice. Each day will consist of 45 minutes of instruction and 45 minutes of game play.

Bentrud says while officers will be on hand to help teach the kids, they've added some community partners to help out.

"We have been partnering with the Central Minnesota Youth Soccer Association to provide some instruction and we have an intern that has some soccer in her background who will help out," says Bentrud.

The program is free to attend and kids are not required to attend all sessions. Bentrud says pre-registration is not required but it is helpful for equipment planning.
