The Minnesota DNR is looking for volunteers to survey loons on Minnesota lakes for 10 days this summer. This study will be happening June 28th to July 8th, and the times the loons need to be seen on lakes are between 5 am and noon, so this is a project for early risers!

Volunteers who sign up for the survey will be given maps, instructions and training materials before they head out to their assigned lakes. The MN DNR says volunteers should bring binoculars and if they want, a canoe or boat.

Most of the lakes are in Northern Minnesota, with a few bring near Willmar in Central Minnesota. Take a look at the lakes that need surveying, and sign up to be a volunteer on the Minnesota DNR website. This would be a great family activity with the kids this summer!
