This Weekend Could Really “Rock” in Central Minnesota

When my wife and I moved from the mountains of Western North Carolina to Central Minnesota, we noticed the landscapes between the two places are very different. Where we lived before, there were mountain views and mountain ranges everywhere.

If you travel around those mountains, there are lots of rock formations jutting out of the mountains. That means there are rocks lying around everywhere as well. In the creeks, in the woods, and along the hiking trails. 

Rocks can be fascinating things to spend time looking at, learning how they are shaped, what they are made of and even if they are worth anything.  

If you are someone who enjoys rocks or stones, or maybe you might want to learn, this weekend there’s an event that is right up your alley. The Rock 'n Gem Artisan Show will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Milaca. 

There will be at least 65 vendors featuring everything from gemstones, minerals, fossils and rocks. And not just from around Minnesota but also from around the world. 

Some of the vendors will have more than just loose rocks, there will be jewelry, and other unique handcrafted items available for sale too.  

Events like this are great for taking the kids to, and helping create interests that they could enjoy for years.  

The Rock n Gem Artisan Show will be open from 9 to 5 each day. The address is 21287 Highway 169 in Milaca at Hairy Mosquito Trading Company.  

This will be an opportunity to get out with the family and enjoy learning as well as admiring the talent of those who can create art out of things that most people leave lying on the ground.
