Yeah, it’s been really cold. And most of us have had to spend more time indoors because of the extreme conditions. We finally begin to get a reprieve on the temp’s mid-week, thankfully.

The weather into the weekend looks better, with highs in the mid 20’s, a heatwave of sorts. So, after being inside so much, this Saturday is going to be a day to break out.

It’s a good thing the Minnesota Zoo is offering something for the whole family during the day, and something for moms and dads in the evening.

It’s time for Winterfest. Here’s a chance to see the animals that really enjoy the colder weather. Take a walk up the Northern Trail to check out the bison, caribou, the Amur tigers, and camels.

There will be a one-of-a-kind sculpted ice bar with beverages that will match the Winterfest theme. And when it comes time to eat, the Minnesota staple “Hot Dish” will be served.

There will be a children’s author on hand, Heather Boschke, who wrote the book “Little Birdie Buddies”. She’ll be reading this book to the kids.

There will also be indoor activities in the Tropics Trail where it will be 78 degrees. Here you can see the underwater beauty of Discovery Bay which is home to five California Sea Lions.

This event runs from 10:00 until 4. Ticket prices range from $17.95 to $23. 95.

Then when the sun goes down, the adults only Zoo After Hours will be a great opportunity for a date night with the animals, or an opportunity for you and your friends to be able to enjoy the sights of the zoo on your own.
